Biography

My research interests lie at the intersection of condensed matter physics, optics and biomaterials. I have always been fascinated with the natural world and its intricate structure. Investigating nano scale structure using electron microscopy has recently been used with great success to investigate nacre layers in pearls here at Michigan, and I want to continue using this same technology to investigate other biological structures. My undergraduate degree was in biomedical engineering and my previous years of research were in organ microscopy and immunotherapeutic testing, so I intend to tailor some of my future electron microscopy research into investigating medical nanoparticles or cellular structures.
