Pierre Ferdinand Poudeu Joins UM MSE as Assistant Professor

Assistant Professor Poudeu

Pierre Ferdinand Poudeu joined the Department as an assistant professor.

Poudeu studied chemistry at the University of Yaounde-I in Cameroon and earned his doctoral degree in inorganic solid-state chemistry from the Dresden University of Technology in Germany in 2004. He held postdoctoral research positions at Michigan State University and Northwestern University and subsequently served as an assistant professor of chemistry and materials science at the University of New Orleans (UNO).

Poudeu's research interests center on the design, synthesis and evaluation of solid-state inorganic materials. Specifically, he is investigating bulk nanocomposites for thermoelectric and photovoltaic energy conversion and energy storage applications. With a highly competitive National Science Foundation CAREER Award, he also is exploring low-dimensional ferromagnetic semiconductors for spintronic applications, which exploit electron spin in addition to electron charge. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and proceedings and received an Early Research Professor Award for distinguished and creative scholarly activities while at the UNO.

At U-M, Poudeu will lead the Laboratory for Emerging Energy and Electronic Materials (LE3M), where he will continue working toward discovering new materials and applications and better understanding and controlling the interplay among existing materials functionalities.

"I'm very excited about these possibilities--and the outstanding research facilities. I'm ready to work with both students and colleagues to take advantage of these opportunities and to expand our research in new directions."
